  dentified the

      named them after
        reptiles. Now it
          seems he’s working
        backwards—last
      time I saw him he
    told me how the
  painterly qualities
in Poussin’s Et in
Arcadia Ego can be
  summarised using
    only three lizards
      & a carpet snake.
