Genji Monogatari XX: The Picture Contest

Unless you’re standing in a
super Wal-mart at 9 p.m. on
a weeknight, you miss out
on a lot of pretty gay stuff. The
environment is being destroyed
by plastic bags, letters on the
artistic process are scattered
throughout the parking lot, old
Cuban men guard the glasses
on the John Lennon statue
24 hrs a day. There are artists
sitting cross-legged on the
ground, sometimes singing
as they paint – the songs
describe the country & recall
the names & the importance
of the places being painted. A
hovering venture capitalist
proclaims the death of poetry,
another recites in the appropriate
monotone Leonard Cohen’s
Hallelujah. If they were the
same age , they would be
a perfect couple. Doubt has
got me down. Who is worthy
of my trust when it comes
to protecting national
treasures? But you don’t
really care for music, do you?
